For  special occasion dining, you might want to give most of the small local Caribbean restaurants a miss, and stick to the fine dining at the hotels.  Local places tend to be very busy, and so they can be a bit loud, with lots of children, and this is not usually what one wants for a romantic or formal dining experience.

Three of the best elegant places would be Montpelier Plantation, Hermitage Hotel, and Nisbet Plantation.  Montpelier can put you in the Mill Tower which is very elegant.  Hermitage and Nisbet will find you a lovely secluded spot for a private dinner.  The cuisine at all of these places is excellent.

Celebrations are usually a bit noisier, but again, if speeches are in the forecast, it would be a good idea to avoid the small local places. You might want to try Oualie Beach Hotel or Four Seasons.  They do very well with groups, have excellent menus and good service.  Their dining rooms can accomodate various size groups. Montpelier also has space for small private functions, or it is possible for the bride and groom to take over the hotel for their special event.

Other fine dining establishments which are not part of hotels include Bananas and Coconut Grove.
