St. John, and thus to Cruz Bay, requires ferry travel from another nearby Virgin Island,
St. Thomas. The Cyril E. King Airport at St. Thomas provides non-stop and connecting flights to and from the States, though most flights connect via San Juan.
Other cities from which one can fly directly to the Virgin Islands at St. Thomas include New York City, Miami, San Francisco, and Houston—the participating airlines are American, Continental, Delta, United, and US Airways.
Ferry service from Red Hook at St. Thomas to St. John costs $5 for an adult and a buck for kids, with a $2 surcharge for luggage. Travel time is approximately 15-20 minutes.
The only other way to get to St. John is by water, i.e. cruise ship or yacht. Cruise ships that drop off at St. Thomas,
St. Croix, and St. John include Carnival, Celebrity, Holland America, Norwegian, Premiere, Princess, Royal Caribbean, Seabourn, and Sun.
Since coming in and out of Cruz Bay is not exactly easy, be sure to
plan ahead precisely how you will accomplish this adventure.
