El Camaron Dorado is a good place to get breakfast tacos & tortas .It is a restaurant on the way to the other side of the island, past El Caracol on 65th Street. They have the most amazing taste! Octopus, shrimp, Chaya, etc... It is a must try and and gets much local trade in the mornings.

Otates on Ave. 15 offers authentic Mexican fare, tasty and cheap. Tacos, Burritos, Quesadillas and the like. For five dollars you can have a good meal and a beer. Increasingly popluar with tourists and not so many locals now. . It is one of the few places to get tacos at lunch or dinner .

Las Palmas is a local favorite with a blackboard listing their "menu of the day" which is one of the islands best buys for lunch. Also a huge menu, should you not like the specials--all generous with low prices.  They are  located on the corner of Calle 3 and Avenida 25. Lunch only. Open until 4pm daily. Closed Sundays

The tacquerias are a great value for dinner -- they open late 7-8pm. Recommended is El Pique on Ave. 30 Norte (across the street from the San Francisco supermarket.) For a real taste of Mexico, try Chilango's on Ave. 30. Another place that opens around 7pm -- a "hurache" (very large taco) is $2. Add a lemonade& it's dinner for $3.

La Parilla MIssion, Ave. 30 between Calles 2 & 4 Norte serves breakfast, lunch and dinner at very good prices -- take out or eat in. Famous for their breakfasts (but for a local place, coffee a bit pricey at 18 pesos) as well as their Chile Relleno, Chicken Mole and Carne Asada. If you sit at the front of the restaurant, wander back a ways -- there's an additional "sides" buffet to supplement your meal.Take it easy, though, there are some really spicy offerings on that buffet. web: www.parrillamission.com

Well priced breakfasts are also available at Abuelo Gerardo (On 5 near the church), Sonora Grill (corner Ave. 15 & Juarez), La Choza (Ave. 10 between Salas and Calle 3), and Miss Dollars (Ave. 20 between Salas and Calle 3). The breakfast with the best view is on the 2nd floor of the Museum (Melgar between Calles 6 & 8). The Casa Mexicana breakfast buffet is an all-you-can eat affair with made-to-order eggs for around $12 per person -- also, it opens early for divers, 7am.

In a yellow house on Ave 5 Sur between 3 y 5, is Sabores where Dona Carmen offers breakfast as well as excelent yucatecan lunches like Pollo con mole poblano for about 50pesos , you get soup, entree, and agua fresca.
