There are plenty of sports and activities in St. John’s to keep all of its visitors thoroughly entertained.

During the winter months when the snow is falling, skiing is a popular activity in Newfoundland.  The local ski hill, operated by the St. John's Ski Club, is nicknamed " The Lump" (or Logy's Lump). It has five runs and two lifts and is currently unable to accomodate snowboarders. There are four other ski hills in Newfoundland and Labrador, but the next closest is two hours' drive away.  Ice skating is another popular wintertime sport in St. John’s.  There are several indoor skating facilities in the city.

During the summer time, golf is a popular outdoor activity.  Pippy Park has two public golf courses: the nine-hole Captain's Hill, and the eighteen-hole Admiral's Green (designed by Graham Cooke). There are numerous other public courses around the St. John’s area, a list of which can be seen at golf courses. Skateboarders can enjoy one of the city's five skate parks.

The natural beauty of the St. John’s area is amazing, and a great way to see it up close is to explore the many hiking and walking trails.  For more information, see hiking recommendations at the City of St. John's website .
