Mahar Restaurant offers northern Indian (Punjabe) cuisine. They offer a lovely buffet covering both vegetarian fare and meat. However, there are à la carte menu selections as well. All of the food is spicy but not necessarily hot.
On any given day you will see 2-3 veggie dishes, 2-3 lentils / legumes selections, at least 2 chicken offerings as well as goat. Then there are the usual pakora, samosa, rice and flatbreads. Great sweets for dessert as this place speciliazes in Indian sweets. The buffet price is good value compared to other restaurants on the Gerrard "India Bazaar" strip. Other interesting dishes are dosas - a huge Indian crêpe make from fermented batter and filled with a selection of curried vegetables. It is rolled into a large crispy tube shape. There are also traditional street snacks such as chat papri, aloo tiki and pani puri - a must try!
There are many Indian restaurants on Gerrard. Mahar is by far the best in terms of value for your money and quality of food. Located at 1410 Gerrard St E, between Greenwood & Coxwell.
