Golden may be a small town with a population of just over 4000, however there is plenty to see and do in both winter and summer. It is not a town of tourist shops but a real community with great restaurants and shops servicing the needs of the community and those that come to participate in the great activities on offer. It is small enough that you can walk around the downtown (don't forget to visit the pedestrian bridge which is the longest freestanding wooden bridge in Canada). However there is a municipal bus service that provides regular service around the town and to outlaying areas and in the winter there is the snow shuttle which provides access from the town to the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort base area.
