The tide mill can now be seen operating at certain times, it is interesting to see and surprising to discover that the use of tidal power is quite an old invention. There is a toll bridge across the river Test at this point (free to pedestrians)  leading on to Eling village which has a church dating from Saxon times and 2 pubs.  There is a pleasant short walk around the reeded riverside area using a footbridge to recross the river higher up; the wildlife often includes nesting swans and their offspring.
