Dover has a wide range of affordable places to eat.  Many are family friendly and, if you book accommodation in town (where the majority of hotels and guest houses are situated) most places are within easy walking distance so you can have a drink without worrying about driving (or parking).

There are the usual selection kiddie 'quick-fix'  outlets and take-aways but eating out is inexpensive and good value.  A Weatherspoons called the Eight Bells located near the Market Square, provides food and drink deals almost all year round and is very popular with the younger age groups. The Indian restaurant Light of India situated near the main seafront, is very good with helpful and well informed staff..  There is a modern and contemporary Chinese restaurant called Chapter Eight also on the Market Square, it is family friendly and lunch, in particlular is very good value - food is either buffet style or 'A La Carte' .There are a couple of Italian restauants but  La Scala Restauarnt is extremely good (therefore alwasy busy so booking is essential) and can serve on request, meals made with GLUTEN FREE PASTA - which is extremely rare.  Blakes of Dover and Sea Breeze both offer English Cuisine - both are of high quality with a good variety of well presented food - Blakes is more of a Pub Restaurant  (which also caters well for vegetarians) whereas Sea Breeze is a very elegant restaurant.  Blakes also specialises in serving 'real ale' in it's basement pub - over 100 varieties - overdo it at your peril! On the marina there is an excellant fish restaurant/wine bar bistro called Cullins Yard - beautifully situated and with a very relaxed atmosphere, live music is often on the menu here .

During the daytime there are a number of cafes' and stylish coffee shops where you can relax either European style sitting outside under the canopy or lounge in deep leather armchairs as provided in the Green Room.  Other popular options are the Victorian Tea Room or Chaplins - all situated near the Market Square.  Dover has a couple of Brewers Fayre restaurants (the same the country over) - one on the sea front and another which has a large childrens play area outside - this a 3 miles outside town near Whitfield.
