A visit to this area would not be complete without a day at the Lake District National Park , with nearly 900 miles of mountains, forests, waterfalls, wildlife, and more than 100 lakes. Exploring is easy thanks to the 1,800 miles of well-maintained footpaths.
Start your visit at the Visitor Centre to pick up maps and guides, and check out the 30 acres of the landscaped gardens. This is also the place to catch a cruise, an exhibition or a film, or enjoy lunch on the terrace in Gaddums tearooms. Trails are well-marked throughout the park, and there are scattered information offices with maps and suggested itineraries.
