If you come to Oxford then you have to go punting!

The Cherwell boathouse is the place to go and the "Oxford end" to punt from is the lower end, not the flat "Cambridge" end.

They don’t take bookings but there are plenty of punts so availability is not a problem, you can get some refreshments from the cafe and then decide which direction to go....

Downstream (there is very little current) is the university parks, a perfect place for a picnic . A quintessential Oxford experience, most enjoyable.

Left facing the river, away from Oxford are the meadows and dont forget the Vicky Arms, about ½ hour upstream - great for a rest and a pint or you can go further and picnic on the bank.

Great for all ages, kids to granddads, for a sunny day you cannot go wrong.  The Cherwell boathouse also  has a restaurant, which is a great setting for dinner as well.

All in all a great day, that is Oxford!
