Dovecliff Hall near Burton on Trent is expensive for the area but with good food, large grounds and a lovely building is worth it for a special occasion.
The George at Alstonefield is near the Derbyshire border, has a one-page menu of good dishes. Soup is enormous, Cajun Chicken spicy, and the Roast Beef is not overdone. The dining room has recently re-opened after very sympathetic refurbishment.
There are a couple of good-looking places to eat in Leek:
Blueberry Cafe at the lower end of the Market Place. A light lunch is reasonably priced and enjoyable.
64 on St Edwards Street leading down from the main church at the top of the hill towards the road to Stoke. This describes itself as a restaurant with rooms and the prices looked reasonable.
