Down the middle of the main shopping street in Stafford sits the Ancient High House. On the ground floor it is just modern shops and is adjacent to a McDonalds, but above street level it is traditional oak beams. The house is Elizabethan and made from local oak for the Dorrington Family in 1594. King Charles I stayed in in 1692 during the English civil war. It now houses several historical collections for the local museums.
