The best way to get into Salisbury is by flying into London and then either taking a train or driving down to the town itself. If you try to take a smaller flight to an airfield nearby, you will end up spending a lot more money and not really saving that much time. Salisbury is close enough to London that you can take the train or drive without much trouble. If you fly into either Gatwick International Airport or Heathrow International Airport , you can make some connections and catch a train that will take you to Salisbury. The trains in England are very fast, safe, and efficient. It is definitely a good way to travel. You can also rent a car from either airport and then drive southwest to get to Salisbury. The drive won't take you too long--about an hour or two depending on traffic conditions and how fast you drive. You can get the directions from the agency that you get your car from, but it won't be too difficult. England has a good highway system. If you don't want to take the train or drive yourself, you can take a public bus to get to Salisbury. The times for the buses are listed in all the terminals, and it shouldn't be too difficult to get a ticket. Still, this option will end up taking a bit longer because of more stops and the fact that the buses go slower than trains and cars.
If you are visiting for the day, then use one of the park & ride services on the outskirts of the city, as most car parks in the city allow limited times for parking. Most visitors find so much to do in the city that they wish they had been able to stay for longer.
