Welsh culture and tradition is celebrated at a festival/competition called the Eisteddfod. Early competitions focused on poetry composition and harp playing, but now exhibitions and competitions in choir singing, bands, acting, recitation, fiction writing and painting take place. Two major eisteddfodau take place each year: the National Eisteddfod in North and South Wales, held alternate years in early August, and the International Eisteddfod in Llangollen, in mid-July that attracts artists and musicians from all over the world.
