The Botanic Gardens are located at the top of Byres Road, where it meets Great Western Road. It is a beautiful space in the west end of Glasgow, which is very popular with local residents as a place to go at any time of the year; from sledging in the winter when the snowfalls, to sunbathing during the summer.
There is always a wee mobile ice cream van outside the main gates (very busy on sunny days), and in the summer, around the time of the West End Festival, the "Paintings on Railings" season sees art displays around the walls of the park.
The Kibble Palace itself is a massive greenhouse which normally houses much of the park's botanic collection. It is currently open after the furbishment; the ambitious programme involved completely dismantling the palace and replacing the glass and then rebuilding it. New basement areas were also added during this process.
There is the more modern greenhouse in the park, which houses amongst other things the park's orchid and cacti collections.
