Ireland is known for being a safe country for tourists and they are proud of their low crime rate, but travelers still need to be aware of themselves and act responsibly while visiting.  Be sure to lock any valuables you may have in your hotel's safe when you go out and avoid carrying large amounts of cash.  Men should carry their wallets in their front pockets and women need to keep an eye on their bags while dining out or using public transportation.

Travelers should also avoid areas that seem unsafe to them for any reason and be particularly careful when out drinking in a pub at night, especially if alone.
