Killarney is a small town with limited public transport offerings. It is possible to see the entire town on foot. However, most people who travel to Killarney want to have some sort of transportation to bring them to out-laying sights, landmarks, museums, and other places of historical significance.
There are taxis available in Killarney and they are usually lined up on College Square waiting for people who need/want a ride somewhere. There are a few different taxi companies in town, and each of them can be called for a specific pick up location.
Many visitors to Killarney choose to rent cars for the duration of their visit. Budget are the only car rental company to have a location in Killarney itself. Companies such as Avis, Hertz, Europar, Irish Car Rentals and CARHIRE.ie offer car rental services from Farranfore Kerry Airport. Since cars really aren’t needed to get anywhere within town (because most everything is within walking distance), rental cars can be parked in the local parking lot for a reasonable fee per day. The rental car can be left in the lot until it’s needed to travel somewhere outside of town.
For anyone wanting to get somewhere in or near town, a Jaunting Car (horse-drawn buggy) can also be hired as a unique mode of transportation.
