There are an estimated 5 million Muslims in France, so anyone hoping to find halal food in a cosmopolitan city such as Nice would not expect too many problems.

Luckily, there are a host of places dotted about ranging from Tunisian, Moroccan, Algerian, Turkish, Lebanese and Indian. You will halal Indian restaurants to the pizza, fried chicken, kebab and burger joints and they are not always hidden away in certain areas with a high ethnic population.

The following website is a good starting point to search for suitable halal food establishments.

A good place to start looking for halal food in the city centre is both sides of Avenue de Jean Medecin walking towards the train station. Rue Suisse is a haven for halal food including several Indian restaurants but mainly Arabic food. Again you will find burger/kebab cafes on the road heading towards the train station.

Amongst the narrow streets of the old town again you will see halal eateries available. Again they consist of Indian snack places, pizza and the normal donner kebab outlet. Look hard enough and you may find a Moroccan or Turkish restaurant. If you have a sweet tooth you may even come across a sweet stall selling Baklava, Jalebi and other types of sweet pastries.

Halal food is not limited to these areas. The area around the exhibition centre of the Acropolis has a few halal outlets as well as halal butchers and the Carrefour supermarket near the area have a dedicated halal food section.
