This walk follows the coastal path, providing beautiful sea views. This is part of the route one of the small tourist trains takes, however by walking it is possible to both linger and explore more easily. The most spectacular part is the views out to sea as you walk.
Setting off from the Vieux Port walk on the East side of the port South. Follow the road along and then past the port. When the road forks take the right hand fork.
As you walk you will pass the Porete de l'orient, the Catalan beach, fisherman’s wharf (where Chez Fon Fon and the Michelin starred restaurant are, this gives you an opportunity to check out the prices and the views before deciding whether to book) Helice de Cesar and finally arrive at a small private marina, take the main road just past the marina on the left and the second bus stop you come to is where you can catch the number 19 Bus back into Marseille. This stops at Castellane metro station, from where it is a 20 minute walk back to the port or a short metro trip.
At times the sea is obscured and the road you’re walking alongside can be quite busy. However, the path is wide and the walk feels safe. There is very little shade along the walk.
Walking slowly and stopping for the odd drink / paddle / rest / photo opportunity along the way, this will take about 3-5 hours. Walking quickly the walk would probably only take about an hour and a half.
