Muelle Uno

Muelle Uno is a new commercial center located at the port and this was inaugurated on Dec. 2, 2011. There is a mix of stores and restaurants, with a total of 70 businesses planned. Most are already open for business, while the rest will open shortly. The commercial center is located parallel to the Paseo de la Farola and beside the port at Muelle Uno (Dock One). The entrance to this center is the entrance to the port and one can walk along the Palmeral de las Sorpresas from the Plaza de la Marina. There is another entrance at the corner of Velez Malaga and San Nicolas. There is a parking garage with space for 1050 cars, and the entrance to this garage is at the Farola.

Among stores already open are Lladro-Swarovski, Andycraft (home decoration and bags), Bags and Cases, Mandragora (a large furniture store which also sells small collectibles), a flower shop, Tommy Hilfiger, Etxart and Panno (women’s dresses), Kiko-Make Up Milano, Touch Bijoux (watches and jewelry), Lacoste, Levis, Diesel, Yanamoy (lingerie), Fusion (clothing), Loft Six (clothing), Decimas (sports clothing and shoes), No Bella (shoes), Kirola (jewelry and bags), and Deichmann (German shoes and bags).

Chocolates de la Yaya is a chocolate store owned by Christophe, a Frenchman. There are artisanal chocolates made in the Axarquia, macaroons, turron, chocolate covered figs, pastries, sweet wine from Frigiliana, and French cava, among other things. This is a store for gourmets and for people who enjoy the finer things in life.

The restaurants are more interesting because all of them have very large terraces with wonderful views of the sea, the Cathedral, the Alcazaba, and Gibralfaro Castle. During summer nights it will be magical to have tapas and drinks on one of the terraces and see the lights of the city.

One of the good restaurants is Restaurante Jose Carlos Garcia. The owner and chef used to operate the Café de Paris, which was famous for its food and its Michelin star. However the new restaurant does not have the Michelin star because the restaurant facilities were not ready for inspection when the Michelin inspectors made their rounds in preparation for the new book. This restaurant will have a different menu from the Café de Paris.

Another interesting restaurant is Gorki Seleccion. This is an offshoot of the Gorki restaurant downtown, which is famous for its tapas. Lounge Bar Plaza has tapas and a variety of paellas and is open at 8 am for breakfast. This restaurant is decorated with a white piano, white tables and chairs, and is quite elegant. Carraca El Marisquero serves fish tapas. Muelle 1 Gastro Pub looks like another good place to visit. There is also the Amigos Grill, which serves Mexican and Indian cuisine.

At the very end of the complex is a place for children’s recreation. This is a safe place where children can play and where parents can rest.

So this center awaits visitors arriving on cruise ships and people who visit Malaga.  The center looks very promising and may prove to be very popular. Many cruise ship passengers who want to try tapas will find many places to try them in the restaurants in this center.
