Opportunities for shopping abound in Bilbao. If you're looking to grab a few souvenirs to bring back to friends at home, or just in the mood to shop til you drop, you'll find what you're looking for in Bilbao.

The two main shopping areas in Bilbao are located in the Old Quarter, which is home to over 800 storefronts, and BilbaoCentro, where you'll find both department stores and smaller boutiques.

Even if you're not in the market for something specific, you may want to consider taking some time to wander through the various markets held around town. The Seaside Market is located in the Old Quarter, on Ribera Street. In this three-story complex you can find a number of food items for sale, including fresh produce and meat. The Seaside Market is open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.; Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. During the summer (June through September), the market is open Monday through Thursday and Saturday 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  The Ensanche Market is another fresh food market located in Ensanche Square between Colón de Larreategui and Henao streets. The market is open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. A great place to pick up traditional Basque items is to wander through the Handicrafts Market, which is open during the holiday season from December 19 to January 6. This market is located at El Arenal in the Old Quarter.
