Several options exist for getting around Ciutadella and the island of Minorca.  Buses, taxis, rental cars, and private shuttles are all readily available. Ciutadella is not a large town and it's many shops and attractions are easily accessible by foot.

Ciutadella is relatively cycle friendly. Most major roads have dedicated cycle lanes and there are cycle hire facilities in the town (The Hotel Balaeres in Cami de Mao) and in some of the surrounding resorts. Pay extra care around pedestrian crossings on major roads as it's not always clear from the pavement that cycles lanes are present. And display the same road sense and awareness that you would in any other busy town.

Taxis are available in Ciutadella at stands located around the city. At the time of writing (12/12), a taxi to/from Mahon airport costs around €60.

Several car rental companies also do business on Minorca.

  • Alamo Rent A Car (269) 382-2820
  • Avis Rent-A-Car (269) 381-0555
  • Basic Car Rental (269)382-2820
  • Budget Rent A Car (269)381-0617
  • Miramar Rent A Car +34 971 36 06 87 - Also have branches in most towns and resorts

During the summer months cars go very quickly, so if you want to rent a car then be sure to make reservations well in advance.

Ciutadella has a confusing, and constantly evolving, series of one-way systems. These can make travelling even a short distance time-consuming. And parking can be difficult in popular and residential areas. Special attention should be paid to parking bays marked in blue. You need to pay to park in these and they are rigourously patrolled. It is usually a far better idea to take the bus if coming from outside of town or, if you're staying in the town itself, walk.

Minorca has a very good public bus system which is considered modern and reliable. See Transportes Menorca's website for schedules and rates.  Private buses and minivans are also available for hire on the island from  Torres , a local transportation company.

Ciutadella's main bus terminals are located at Plaça dels Pins (holiday season only) and Plaça Menorca. There are bus stops located throughout the town.

Be aware that a reduced bus service runs outside of the holiday season (March - October). This can make it difficult to get to resorts, but travel to/from major towns and the airport is still straightforward.

Bus services during fiesta days are greatly reduced and are subject to an early finish. Early finishes are not indicated by departure boards.
