With all kinds of activities like whale watching, sports, and scuba diving, not to mention a near-perfect climate (with very little rain, which means fewer mosquitoes), children will not be bored on a trip to Gran Canary.  This is a very family-friendly destination, for the most part, although it would be wise to check reviews of whatever hotel or resort you intend to stay at to see what kind of experience other families have had.  Most hotels are very accommodating, offering child care and play areas for children, but some are less so.  Some hotels and restaurants even offer reduced rates for children.  Overall Gran Canary is a destination that will lessen the trouble of finding activities that will be fun for children, although parents should be aware that not all activities are appropriate for children - rock climbing requires a license, and some of the hiking and biking trails can be very challenging even for adults.  Parents should also be aware that some areas might be less welcoming of children- Playa del Ingles is known as a primarily gay and adult destination, and the capital city, Las Palmas, is more of a faster-paced city with fewer family activities.  Puerto Rico in the west, though, is a very popular vacation spot for families (even locals go there), with a water park for kids and family activities like bowling and minigolf.
