History museums are the place to go in Grand Canary to explore the rich past of the area.  There are two large history museums, both located in Las Palmas, which should not be missed by any travelers in the area.

#1:  El Museo Canario, The Canarian Museum, ( http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction... ) is where visitors should start their exploration of the area, learning first about the ancient people who originally inhabited Grand Canary.  In addition to its exhibitions of mummified remains and historical artifacts, this museum has both documentary and museographic collections along with special activities to keep guests entertained.

#2:  Casa de Colon, Christopher Columbus’ house ( http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction... ) should be visited after the trip to El Museo Canario.  This is because the influence of the explorer’s conquest of the area is felt more completely by visitors who have intimately experienced education about the original inhabitants of Grand Canary.  This second museum displays the conquest from Columbus’ perspective, using original journal entries and drawings to depict the days of his explorations in the area.
