El Maná
Still something of a rarity on Tenerife, an ultra-stylish restaurant which caters mainly for vegetarians (there are a couple of meat dishes on the menu to keep the carnivores happy). Inventive and beautifully prepared avant-garde cuisine; let the chef surprise you with a selection of his favourite dishes. Booking is advisable.

La Esentzia
Just a few doors down from the Hotel Botanico this gem of a restaurant opened in October 2008. Exquisite food cooked to perfection by a chef who clearly loves his work!  Five star food and service at a three star price.
General del Botanico, No 40 Tifno 922 385 253

La Papaya
Popular with all nationalities; traditional Canarian and Spanish cuisine includes local favourites such as Conejo (rabbit – don’t worry, there are plenty of choices for more conservative palates) served in and around a pleasant courtyard. Very friendly and good value.

La Rosa Di Bari
A sophisticated Italian restaurant for people with discerning tastes; elegant décor, professional service and delicious, freshly made pastas and sauces; pure quality.
Calle Lomo, 23; (0034) 922 368 523

La Tasquita de Min
You don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to deduce that they dish up good food here. Their terrace, beside the harbour, is nearly always packed to capacity with Canarian families. Fish and seafood dishes are especially good.

Bar Luis, El Balcon
There’s a choice of three restaurants in El Rincon, beside Plaza Charco. The most popular is Bar Luis. There’s an extensive tapas menu and the old Canarian mansion setting, with its antique polished wooden balconies, is hard to beat.

Cha’ Paula
If you’re really hankering after an authentic Canarian dining experience then this old Canarian townhouse is the place to go. Choose from the delightfully quirky courtyard, rustic dining room, or atmospheric bar area to enjoy some of the best taps in Puerto. Specialises in fish and seafood. Might be ‘too’ local for some.
Calle Blanco, 19: (0034) 922 380 730

Pomodoro
Friendly, unpretentious Italian restaurant which also serves traditional Canarian dishes. Pizzas are incredible value and the food is good, but its location is the real selling point. Located below Punta del Viento, tables beside open stone arches have quite fantastic views of Puerto’s dramatic coastline.
Santo Domingo, s/n. (mirador punta del viento pza.); (0034) 922 381 328

Poco Loco
Tucked away in the upper town in an old stone cottage full of Mexican inspired bric-a-brac (there’s even a huge cactus in the courtyard), this is Mexican cooking at its best. Familiar dishes have been given an inventive once over and the tequila beer is dangerously drinkable.
Paseo Dragos, 7 (near Sitio Litre); (0034) 922 385 662

El Monasterio
Very possibly Tenerife’s most beautiful dining venue. Five restaurants are located in a lovingly restored former monastery on a volcanic cone overlooking Puerto de la Cruz and the Orotava Valley. It’s the perfect spot for that special meal followed by a romantic stroll around its wonderful gardens. For a morning treat, the champagne breakfast is delightfully decadent and surprisingly cheap.
