1. Restaurante Hotel Bahia Santander

This hotel restaurant is outstanding and probably one of the best restaurants in the city. The restaurant is very well decorated and is beautiful. There is a menu of the day, with choices for the first and second plates. Later there is a choice of desserts. The menu of the day costs 19 euros from Monday through Saturday, and 24 euros on Sunday, because the plates on Sunday are more elaborate. This price includes a drink. The food is very delicious and the presentation of the food is wonderful. The food is typical of Cantabria and has modern touches. The chef of this restaurant and of two other restaurants in the hotel chain is Miguel Martinez. Very good desserts are the tarta selva negra (black forest cake) and the trufa blanca (a cake with white truffles). Both are simply delicious. The service at the restaurant is excellent. Reservations are recommended because the restaurant fills up with local people.
2. Meson Los Arcos

The Meson was founded in 1968 and is still open because its food is quite good. The restaurant is very clean and elegant, and there is a menu of the day for 16.50 euros, with a wide variety of food to choose from. The price includes a drink. The restaurant is very generous when one asks for wine. The food is Cantabrian and the food is presented very well and the service is very friendly and professional. There is an outside terrace too, where one can be more informal.
