The nearest airport to Burgos is actually the Madrid Barajas Airport, which is a major international destination with direct flights from North America as well as throughout Europe. From the airport bus service and rental cars are available, and shuttle buses to some hotels in Burgos can also be arranged. The Madrid Barajas Airport is about 130 miles from the northwestern town of Burgos, and travel can take up to two and a half hours by car.

The trip is worth it however, and the roadways in Spain are very well maintained. It is a straight shot up the A1 highway from Madrid, and Leon is to the west on the A-231 highway.
