When in Madrid, you might feel an atmosphere building up towards the weekend. One reason for this, the Real Madrid Club Futbol is probably playing at their homeground of Santiago Bernabeu. Game days are major events and draw large crowds, especially when the team hosts rival FC Barcelona, which sells out well in advance. The team is frequently champions of La Liga, the Spanish football league but has been struggling to be successful in the European Champions League for the last 8 years. Tickets can be purchased at the stadium, or at various sites on the internet such as Football Tickets Real Madrid.

And if the "Galacticos" are not playing that weekend, you might be able to catch a football match watching the "Colchoneros". Although not as successful as Real Madrid, Atletico just won the Europa League and will try its best to rank high in the next Spanish League. Tickets can be purchased at the stadium or at various sites on the Internet such as Atletico Madrid tickets

In Madrid there are lots of golf courses (more than 20), but many of them are private and you need to be a partner, or they are extremely expensive. Here are some reasonable ones:

     - OLIVAR DE LA HINOJOSA. It has both a 9 and a 18 holes courses. It might not be the most luxurious one, but it has several advantages: it is public, run by the City Hall, which makes it cheaper, quite central (of course, not in the city center, but in a nice financial area near the airport), and easily accessible, even by subway (the subway station is Campo de las Naciones, line 8) Its website is

     - CLUB DE CAMPO VILLA DE MADRID. Considered one of the best golf clubs of Madrid, Spain and Europe, and one of the oldest (1932). It has been home of many international tournaments: Madrid's Open, European PGA, World Cup... It has two 18 holes courses. Very central, too (close to Moncloa and next to the Manzanares river), but only accesible by taxi or bus (lines 160 or 161, both departing from Moncloa -subway station: Moncloa, lines 3 and 6).

Notice that in almost all golf clubs, you have to reserve on advance, either by phone or internet. The majority of websites are only in Spanish.
