Palacio Consistorial

The Palacio Consistoria is the City Hall of Cartagena. The construction of this building started in 1900. Its architect was Tomas Rico, who was the town architect. The building was finished in 1907. Unfortunately this part of town was built on landfill that was recovered from the sea. The foundations of the building were not stable and very soon cracks developed in the building that threatened to destroy it. In 1995 the restoration of the building was started and the architect was Juan Antonio Molina. However it took many years for the work to be completed. The building has a triangular floor plan, with three different facades, all of them very impressive. The style of the building is modernist and there are many decorative details in the entrance.
