Bringing the kids to Lombardy? Here’s just a sampling of fun activities you might plan for them and you.

Head to Lake Maggiore, where you kids will enjoy a visit to the botanical gardens (or Giardini Botanici). These gardens features more than 20,000 species of plants on 50 acres of beautifully manicured gardens. The plants are set within statues, reflection ponds and waterfalls and flowing fountains. And it all is made more beautiful because of the gardens’ location between the lake and the mountains.

The botanical gardens are open from the end of March to the end of October.

In Milan, take the kids to the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology ( Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnica Leonardo da Vinci), where kids can understand the great mind of da Vinci and begin to understand how ahead of his time he was, as well as his great contributions to our society today.

Kids can not only enjoy the displays that exhibit the many da Vinci contributions, but they can learn about science in general, by making indestructible soap bubbles, mix inks to make new colors and make a foamy beer. The museum is open Tuesday through Friday 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
