There are several options for arriving into Locarno despite it not having its own airport.
If you wish to fly, fly to the
Lugano International Airport in Agno. All major cities in Switzerland will fly into Lugano. The Airport is 45 minutes away from Locarno and you can either rent a car, take a bus or a taxi to finish the journey. Farther away but still an option, the
Milan Linate International Airport which is two hours away by car.
Arriving or departing the city by train is also an easy way to go, Switzerland has an incredible train system and the European lines are very efficient as well. If you are coming internationally you can take the train to Ticino, Basel, and Zurich all of which have trains leading to Locarno/Lake Maggiore. Check for timetables with the Swiss rail system online by clicking

Centovalli Railways which go have trains servicing more of the French side of Switzerland and is a beautiful ride; Locarno is the terminus of that line.
