Visitors have numerous options for getting to Coimbra, which include by air, road, and rail.

            Most visitors who fly into Portugal en route to Coimbra will land at the Oporto International Airport, which is located about 70 miles north of Coimbra.  This is a major airport, and has daily arriving flights from many domestic locations, as well as major international cities.  Once at the airport, there are a few options for getting to Coimbra.  Train transportation is available from the Campanha Train Station, which is a short taxi ride from the airport.  The taxi ride should take about a half hour, and the train ride will be a little over an hour.  The bus station is also a half hour taxi ride from the airport, and there are frequent departures to Coimbra from the station.  Driving to Coimbra from the airport is another option, but first time visitors to the country should check out this Driving in Portugal page before deciding to get behind the wheel of a car.  There are numerous Car Rental Agencies based around the Oporto Airport

            Coimbra has both major train and bus stations located in the city center, and travailing to the city from many locations around Portugal is generally very easy and convenient.
