Madeira weather is incredibly even-tempered, for its mean temperature hovers in the 60s and 70s year round. You’ll enjoy days with degrees in the mid- to upper-60s from December through May and throughout the 70s from June through November; from October through April, the chance for precipitation rises and you’ll probably need to pack a rain coat or umbrella.
Speaking of packing, even with its mild temperatures, the degrees can drop the higher you go on the island so, whatever time of year you visit, be sure to bring a few cool weather additions (like a sweatshirt or sweater) if you plan to visit the higher altitudes.
Although summer is popular for its mostly sunny days, balmy breezes, and outdoor activities, New Year’s Eve is a favorite time for many repeat visitors. As one TripAdvisor Member says, “The New Year’s celebrations—fireworks display and lights—would be hard to beat anywhere in the world. If a good fireworks display is your thing, another TripAdvisor Member says they are “best viewed. . . from a boat out on the harbor.”
