Visitors to Linz have a number of options for getting around the city and the rest of the country, and include by car, bus, train, and taxi.

A personal vehicle is the most convenient form of transportation available in Linz , as it allows the greatest freedom and flexibility in travel.  However, first time visitors to the country should check out this Driving in Austria page before deciding to get behind the wheel of a car.  Many visitors choose to fly into the Linz Airport (also known as the Blue Danube Airport), which is located just outside of the city, and stop by one of the Car Rental Agencies based around the airport to pick up a vehicle for their trip.

There is a good public transportation network around the city of Linz , which connects many major destinations with buses and trams.  For more information, check out this Routes page and this Timetables page.

Train travel is possible to and from Linz , as it is connected to both Vienna and Salzburg through the Eurocity and Intercity networks.  Connections to most important European cities are available form Vienna and Salzburg .

Taxis are another option for getting around the immediate city of Linz .  Generally, taxis will be waiting outside of major public areas such as the airport, train station, bus stations, and large hotels.  If outside of these areas, the best way to get a taxi is to call one of the agencies ahead of time to arrange for a pick-up.  Most hotels, restaurants, and bars will be happy to make this call for their customers.  Because many drivers do not speak English, it is a wise idea to bring along a map with the desired destination circled.
