General Information 

Wakefield is a Cathedral city in West Yorkshire. It is smaller than other West Yorkshire cities such as Leeds (8 miles) and Bradford (12 miles) and is easy to explore on foot.

 

The city has a main bus station with a travel information centre owned and operated by ARRIVA. Tickets can be purchased direct from drivers on board and include day, weekly and monthly ticket options.

There are two rail stations, Westgate, on the main East Coast rail line to London, with trains to York, Bradford Leeds and Halifax and Kirkgate Station, with trains to Sheffield, Leeds and Selby. Westgate has a ticket office for advanced and immediate travel. Kirkgate is an un-staffed station that is in an area of the city identified as needing development,It is currently undergoing a major redevelopment and should be a staffed stations with new shops by 2014.

 

Wakefield has a Free City Bus service which stops at both rail and bus stations and the main out of town retail park to the south of the city, which includes a cinema complex, fast food outlets and major stores.It has a new retail park Trinity Walk just across from the main bus staion.

 

There is a Tourist Information Centre located on the Bull Ring, in the centre of the city, 1minute from Wakefield Cathedral which is a local landmark building.
