Ravello is a safe city overall, but tourists should always be aware of their surroundings and attempt to be as street-smart as possible.

The most common crimes against tourists in Ravello are small thefts (such as pick-pocketing) as well as car break-ins. While most tourists are smart and keep their valuables, such as wallets, in their front pockets or a secure fanny pack, there are always a few who leave them in their back pockets, which is like asking a thief to take it.

The most common locations for pick-pockets to strike are in crowded areas or on public transportation. Thieves also keep a keen eye out for rental cars whose doors are unlocked. Tourists tend to leave valuables in rental cars, and this is a quick and easy way to become a victim of theft.

One of the worst experiences a tourist can have in a foreign country is be robbed of all of their money, credit cards, and identification. Being without these items is a huge inconvenience, and it can ruin a whole vacation. With a little bit of cautious behavior, however, petty theft can easily be prevented.

While little can probably be done for victims of minor thefts – such as having their pockets picked –  it’s always a good idea to report any theft to the local police. For an emergency situation, dial “112” from any phone.
