An interesting weekly event in Shannon is the Farmer’s Market, which takes place every Friday at the Town Square in Skycourt. You will find more than fresh fruits and vegetables here; vendors also sell prepared food such as bread, cheese, candy, chocolate, baked sweets, jams and sandwiches. There are also a variety of locally made crafts, such as toys, jewelry or clothing, as well as nursery-type products such as potted plants, shrubs and flowers, available for sale.

You may also find a few golf tournaments being held in Shannon throughout the year. The Shannon Golf Club hosts the Senior Scratch Cup every August on its highly rated, very scenic championship course. They also have a related Junior Scratch Cup in May.

The nearby towns also have a wealth of festivals. Check out Harvest Day at Bunratty Castle in October, where guests are transported back 200 years in time for a 19th century celebration. Later in the month, the medieval castle also throws a children’s Halloween event with plenty of fun and games such as magic shows, face painting, apple-bobs and costume competitions. The other nearby town of Ennis has an art festival around this time as well; it also holds traditional Irish dance events on Wednesday nights at the Queen’s Hotel.
