As one of New Zealand's largest cities, Auckland is full of shopping possibilities.  You can find everything from the totally mainstream to the unique and (sometimes) bizarre.

Downtown Auckland is dominated by Queen Street, where many duty-free shops are located.  Other shopping areas in the city include the Atrium on Elliot Street, DFS Galleria in Customs House and High Street.  High Street is where alot of NZ fashion designers are located (such as Karen Walker).  Notably President Clinton made a stop there during his visit to NZ and Madonna has been known to purchase Karen Walker designs.

For those looking for more unusual goods, a Polynesian bazaar is held each Saturday just south of Auckland in the Otara Town Centre where shoppers can purchase any number of hand crafted items ranging from sculptures, paintings, and clothing to all types of exotic foods.

There are malls located throughout the city, but they are quite spread out as they reside in different suburbs around Auckland.  If you're looking for great shopping in large Malls check out St Lukes, Glenfield Mall, Henderson Mall and Shore City.  The newest and largest mall is Sylvia Park, accessible by train from Britomart in downtown Auckland.  It is by far the best shopping experience in a mall that Auckland provides and includes a cinema and various restaurants.

For a street shop experience with trendy smaller shops that are full of character visit Ponsonby, Newmarket and Parnell.  They are all located near the city centre and are always thriving with eager shoppers.
