For those travellers who enjoy learning about the culture of the places that they visit in New Zealand, the Taupo Museum should be visited. This fascinating small museum is located close to the Taupo Information Centre. Its exhibits include a Maori meeting house, called a Marae; Maori artefacts, including a canoe and carved statues; geological information about the volcanic creation of Lake Taupo; and the beautiful award-winning Ora Garden.
Opening Hours and Entrance Fees
The museum is open every day from 10am to 4:30pm. It is closed on Good Friday and Christmas Day. Entrance fee is NZ$5 per adult, NX$3 for seniors and students, while being free for local residents.
