Saaremaa, Estonia’s largest island, is home to the only intact medieval fortress in the Baltic countries. It’s also famous for beautiful stone fences and houses with thatched roofs (not to mention dolomite, windmills and excellent home-brewed beer).

You can reach the island by air from Tallinn, Stockholm (Sweden) and the island of Ruhnu or by sea. The Kaali meteorite craters are especially worth a visit – they’re considered to be the most unique nature object in Estonia.
