Atascadero is a small town on the crossroads of scenic Highways 101 and 41. This provides for easy access to the city of San Luis Obispo (just a few miles to the south), Morro Bay and the beaches to the West and Paso Robles wine country to the north. Developed in the early 1900’s, the town is filled with genuine Mission / Craftsman architecture, including the beautiful City Administration building. The Sunken Gardens host a weekly Farmers Market and many downtown events. The town also has a beautiful park with a zoo and lake. The park hosts free concerts every Tuesday & Saturday evenings in summer and many other events. The small Charles Paddock Zoo is geared for small children. Atascadero also offers a wide variety of other activities: paddling on the lake, shopping, golf, biking, wine tasting and more. There are many restaurants and several hotels, ranging from inexpensive to premium.
