Zoo Park is a good place to relax for the day especially with the family and children. It is in the center of town at the corner of Independence Avenue and Fidel Castro Street. It is a very verdant green park with ponds and gardens. In addition, there is a popular children’s playground and open-air theater.
In the winter the park is covered with Christmas decorations.
The National Botanical Garden of Namibia, which opened in 2000 in Windheok, is another tourist attraction. This garden is 11 hectares and has a variety of trails and different fauna and wildlife. For instance, the park seeks to show off the many types of intriguing plants that are native to Namibia such as the
Aloe Littoralis , which is the symbol of the city of Windhoek. This bright orange and red flower blooms throughout the garden April through May. This trip is a good educational experience and a chance to learn about nature.
Daan Viljoen Game Park, which is a 40 sqkm nature reserve, lies 24km west of Windhoek. It is located in the Khomas Highland on a dam. In this breathtaking Game Park, there are many different antelope species, giraffes and zebras to be found in the game park. There are well-posted trails, such as the 9KM Bushwillow Trail, which is ideal for hiking.
