Until such time as Myanmar is truly open for foreign exchange and has a credit/debit card infrastructure in place, travellers will have the challenge of transporting large amounts of foreign currency into and around the country. This presents one with the inevitable challenge of how to keep the notes in pristine condition until such time as they need to be used or exchanged. This guide describes a cheap and practical option to solve this dilemma, which has been well tested.
1. Purchase a travel money belt
This should be sturdy and large enough to hold sufficient currency for you. Plenty of high-street and online retailers sell them. Look out for one that is at least 25% longer than a dollar note and has additional zip pockets in it.

2. Protect your notes with a cardboard cover
Using corrugated card or similar, create covers for your notes in a sort of "dollar sandwich". Here are a few photos to show you how they should look. Generally the corrugated card with a shiny printed surface works particularly well, and using an additional sheet of thinner card and/or post-it note inside stops the notes from moving and getting caught in elastic bands:

Providing one is reasonably careful in opening and closing the "sandwiches", they will last for a few weeks.
The "sandwiches" can then be placed into the money belts and transported relatively easily. A further tip is to label each denomination pile with a post-it note with the total written on each. This helps in terms of declaring currency on the inward flight.
