The nice thing about visiting a town like Sigatoka is that you get a real image of what life is like in Fiji. When you stay in larger areas with resorts and hotels, the image can often be skewed a bit. However, once you get to this town you will see what the locals are really like, and you will get a real appreciation for how things work in the country. The locals are very nice and friendly, and they always go out of their way to make sure you are happy and feel welcomed. They love their country and want to make sure you do too. There is a sense of relaxation in the air, and once you get in you almost instantly feel better. Life is slower paced in Sigatoka, and that is why so many people continue to visit. Even though the town is pretty young--only incorporated as a town in 1959, there is a long tradition that continues with the people who live there. There are many customs and ways of life that have gone on in Fiji for hundreds of years that continue in Sigatoka to this day.
