Because of its coastal location and warm climate, Split has a lot to offer active travelers.  Boating, fishing, and swimming are all popular water sports, and golf and tennis are popular within the city and at many of its resorts.  The more adventurous may even try their hands at rock climbing at nearby Marjan, or hiking in the Marjan forest.  There is, however, one activity that almost everyone can participate in, even entire families, while seeing the city at the same time:  walking. 

Split is a beautiful city, walking tours of its historic streets and waterfront are very popular among tourists. The Split Tourist Board offers an entire page devoted to Diocletian palace tour, including maps and suggested itineraries.   On the page visitors can click on the section of the city they wish to visit and get instant maps, descriptions, and photos.  The tourist board also provides paper maps to walkers, located at most hotels and tourist offices in the city.

Sailing on board many sailing yachts or catamarans offer the best of what Split area has to show: magnificent historical towns like Hvar and Korcula, unspoilt nature like islands Lastovo and Vis, traditional little coastal villages and secluded beaches with crystal blue sea (islands Brac, Solta, Drvenik...) You can ride outside of Split as well, but avoid main roads. Another great option is to take ferry and explore the islands of Brac, Solta or Hvar
