Arusha is situated right in the middle of Maasai land, one of the East African tribes known for their distinctive clothes and habits.
If you are planning to have some days walking through the nature, you can make a wonderful Maasai Walking Safari to Ol Doinyo Lengai. There are safari companies (e.g. Enasinya in Loliondo) which offer wonderful walking safaris led by original Maasai guides and crews from Arusha via Ketumbeine to the active vulcano Ol Doinyo Lengai.
Usually it takes about 5 days. A day etap provides 6-7 hours of trekking through the untouched and beautiful land of the Maasai people. Overnighting in tents in natural camps, pure trekking feelings and of course, full-African-service included!
It is an incomparable way of experiencing real Maasailand, far away from busy African cities and their connected world.
Final destination: Ol Doinyo Lengai, active vulcano
Walking along the lake side of Lake Natron, close to flamingos and pelicans
Walking through Maasailand: with a little luck you can see gazelles, antilopes, giraffes...
