One of the most popular neighborhoods in Izmir where travelers frequently go to enjoy their stay there is the Kemeralti Market section.  It is an active, colorful, vibrant part of Izmir which showcases the local culture but also caters to the needs of tourists.  Travelers can go here to do some shopping ( ) in the small stores or to enjoy the dining options in there.

Travelers also frequently enjoy spending time at Konak Square ( ) and Konak Pier ( ).  Shopping can be accomplished here, but in addition to shopping, this is considered an excellent place for people watching.

Other locations in Izmir which travelers often find themselves exploring include Synagogue Street ( ), Asansor ( ) and Kordonboyu ( ).  Each of these spots offers visitors a slightly different Izmir experience.  Asansor is best known for being a lunch and dinner neighborhood because of the number of great restaurants there.  Kordonboyu is a Turkish boardwalk which offers waterfront cafes and is frequented by travelers primarily during the evening hours. If you have some extra time to kill in Izmir, shopping in the Hatay street area of town can sometime yield some excellent bargains and dessert shops for your sweet tooth.

In terms of active nightlife, the best neighborhood is considered to be Alsancak.  This neighborhood is home to a street of bars and clubs and although there are other places to go at night, this is the place to be.
