By plane:  The airport serving Izmir is the Adnan Mendere Airport.  Airlines connect to this airport through nearby Istanbul or Ankara.  Travelers will find that it is much easier to get a flight during the summer than at any other time of the year.

Upon arrival:  The best method of getting to Izmir hotel destinations after arrival at the airport is to take the local bus.  The ride takes approximately half an hour and costs approximately five dollars.  In contrast, a taxi from the airport takes about as long (depending on traffic) and costs three to four times as much.  The least expensive option is to take the local commuter train which costs only about fifty cents, but visitors are reminded that they may still need to get a taxi from the train station t their hotel destination which increases costs.

By train:  In addition to the commuter train, there is also a national Turkish train via which travelers can reach the area in lieu of air travel.  More information is available on the website for the Turkish State Railways which is at www.tcdd.gov.tr.

By boat:  Izmir visitors may also get to Turkey via ferry, which is sometimes considered the best option for reaching the area, especially in the off-season when flights are not as easy to obtain.  More information is available by contacting Turkish Maritime Lines online at www.tdi.com.tr.
