Fethiye is a large, prosperous working port surrrounded by the resorts of Calis, Hisaronu, Ovacik and Olu Deniz. The city is busy and pleasent and the 'downtown' area is where the main road - Ataturk Caddesi - meets the harbour. The road becomesone way and terminates at the ancient Roman amphitheatre facing the sea. To the left is the old town of Paspurtur, to the right the sea front and corniche.

Paspurtur is a quaint selection of narrow, pedestrianised streets and alleys, which are full of shops, bars and restaurants, well visited in summer by the tourists, with little happening except a couple of hardy restaurants and 'lokantasi's off season. The wonderful fishmarket and Turkish Haman (baths) can be found here.

The sea front is a beautiful corniche, recently renovated and stretching some 3km along the sea front. Some excellent teahouses and bars are along the route passing the moored pleasure boats and meandering through some lovely little parks .
