Asheboro is the home of the N.C. Zoo, and the zoo is a wonderful place to take the family. Awesome animals and exhibits, definitely see the polar bear. The Richard Petty Museum in Randleman is great for the Nascar fan. Great restaurants, only drawback is that Asheboro is a dry town, meaning no alcohol is sold here. You have to drive to Randleman to buy alcohol, or to Greensboro to really enjoy a drink with dinner. Some popular restaurants here are Smitty G's Grill in Randleman, Mike's Classic Deli, American Roadhouse, The Wagon Wheel, and the standards such as Something Different, Chick Fil A, Zaxby's, Chili's, Sagebrush, and Rock-Ola.  Asheboro is a small town, but has a lot of Southern charm.

Update as of February 2011:  Asheboro is no longer "dry."  Beer and mixed drinks are available at Rock Ola, Chilis, the Flying Pig, and a number of other restaurants.  Two additional restaurants are La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant on Highway 64 (East Dixie Drive) and Davids on Fayetteville Street.  Soprano's in Randleman has good Italian food.  The polar bear is on loan to another zoo while the habitat is being renovated.  The North Carolina Aviation and Hall of Fame Museum at the Asheboro Municipal Airport is another good site.
